Orthopaedics Clinical Network

Clinical Lead: Mr. Sohail Butt (RWT), Project Manager: Leanne Bood (BCPC), Operations Lead: Charlotte Hathaway (RWT)

The Orthopaedics Clinical Network identified a range of key priorities to pursue and progress, which were:

  1. Transforming delivery of routine Orthopaedic care – ‘North Hub’ elective cold site at Cannock Chase Hospital
  2. GIRFT/HVLC priority pathways
  3. ‘Levelling up’ through care pathways standardisation
  4. Engagement Activities

Looking Ahead

Supplementing the three main priorities, we have been working to reduce elective care waiting lists further by participating in the national 26-week pilot, ‘Further Faster’, through which work has also focused on:

  • Defining and implementing Patient Initiated Follow-Ups (PIFU) and Virtual Consultations (VC)
  • Supporting the validation of patient waiting lists
  • Organising and participating in ‘Super-clinics’ to deliver activity early

We hope that the combination of our activities will support and contribute to an improvement in the Orthopaedic Specialties elective care back log position by the end of the coming financial year, delivering key patient benefits such as:

  • Reduction in waiting lists
  • Standardisation of care pathways
  • Improved theatre utilisation
  • Reduction in cancellations
  • Reduction in lengths of stay (LoS)
  • Increase capacity elsewhere in the System for other specialties.
